This workshop introduces adult education practitioners to the three components of numeracy (content, context, and cognitive and affective aspects) that have been aligned with the Mathematical Practices of the College and Career Readiness Standards. Components of Numeracy models the integration of conceptual understanding, procedural skills and fluency, and real-world application through a sequence of activities that come from and relate to a workplace environment in which numbers and mathematical activity are embedded. In short, this workshop will increase teacher comfort levels in generating a variety of mathematical questions and activities based on workplace situations.

Updates to TABE 13/14 and TABE CLAS-E Forms C/D will benefit programs with shorter new forms, shorter testing times alignment to the new ELP Standards (CLAS-E) meeting the needs of students preparing for today's workforce or preparing to learn English. The updates that both assessments have undergone are based directly on feedback from Teachers, Administrators and Students. Attendees will learn about the pending release of both TABE 13/14 and CLAS-E C/D and all changes that are associated to computer and paper testing processes.

This session will be a high-level overview of the changes Kansas Adult Education will experience with its upcoming new data management system, LACES. We will discuss the similarities and differences between AESIS and LACES, along with some of the useful features that will be available with the new data management system. This session is an initial introduction and is appropriate for attendees who work extensively with AESIS. In-depth LACES training for all users will be provided in the coming weeks and months.

This is a group collaborative session geared towards program directors and administrators.  We'll have a round-table discussion about what's working and brainstorm additional ideas.

An infographic is a visual image, such as a chart or diagram, used to represent information or data. Understanding infographics and data visualization is an increasingly important skill in the 21st century. This workshop is designed to increase adult education practitioners’ comfort and skill with introducing data and statistics to learners. Participants will be introduced to infographics and how to evaluate infographics using a critical mindset based on a foundational knowledge of data and statistics. Activities conducted with workshop participants can be adapted for use with adult learners in the math classroom. These activities are designed to empower adult learners to analyze and interpret information they encounter in their daily lives in order to make better, informed decisions as citizens and consumers
