ABE/GED Students often find the extended response portion of the RLA GED exam intimidating. However, programs and instructors can incorporate specific tools, focus upon necessary skills, and hone in on methodology that builds student confidence and equips our students with the skills to find success. This session will focus upon - Strategies to assist students with breaking down the types of sources presented with the extended response prompt. -Reading and comprehension skills necessary to successfully detect bias and form an educated opinion on a topic. - Formatting & writing tips that will assist in the creation of an introduction and thesis statement specifically modeled for the type of response elicited by the extended response prompt. - Techniques and tools we can use to create familiarity with writing skills and boost confidence in our students' abilities. This session's content is informed by the GED Testing Services high impact indicators as well as best practices shared during multiple sessions at the 2024 National GED Conference: We're Not Done Yet.
